FREEFORM MODELLING USING AUTODESK SOLUTIONS AS AN EDUCATIONAL STRATEGY IN TEACHING GEOMETRY

Abstract

The paper presents an integrated approach to teaching geometry and computer-aided graphics using the “Witch of Agnesi” as a case study. Mathematical concepts are combined with CAD tools to illustrate the connection between theoretical geometry and digital design. First, the curve is constructed in AutoCAD using auxiliary elements and projections, showing its geometric generation. The resulting geometry is then transferred to Autodesk Inventor for freeform modelling, where the curve guides the creation of a three-dimensional shape. This process enables the study of surface continuity and curvature variation. Moving from plane geometry to freeform surfaces supports the development of spatial reasoning and visualization skills, highlighting the educational value of freeform modelling in geometry and CAD instruction.
