Abstract

This paper presents an approach to adaptive shading by combining origami tessellation principles with traditional Romanian geometric motifs. The resulting kinetic façade concept is not only a functional device for regulating daylight and solar radiation but also a cultural reinterpretation that enriches architectural expression. Beyond aesthetic value, the system demonstrates improved thermal resistance and significant potential to reduce cooling energy demand in warm seasons, thereby enhancing occupant comfort. The originality of the contribution lies in bridging vernacular cultural references with contemporary parametric design tools and dynamic façade technologies. The study further underlines the necessity of interdisciplinary collaboration and digital integration as essential pathways toward innovative, context-sensitive solutions for sustainable architecture.
