THE INFLUENCE OF THE PANDEMIC IN THE TEACHING OF GRAPHIC SUBJECTS
Keywords:
Mental Rotation Test, Mental Cutting Test, spatial ability, descriptive geometry, online educationAbstract
The transition to online classes during the COVID-19 pandemic brought significant challenges for both teachers and students, particularly in graphic disciplines. Spatial visualization abilities are crucial for architects and engineers as they involve understanding and manipulating complex geometric shapes and structures, which are fundamental for problem-solving and design. An important role is played by Descriptive Geometry. This study compares the performance of students who completed Descriptive Geometry courses online versus face-to-face using tests like the Mental Rotation Test and Mental Cutting Test. Results indicate that students in traditional classrooms performed better, suggesting potential limitations of online teaching methods in teaching graphical subjects.
