ON DEVELOPABLE SURFACES. AN OVERVIEW
Keywords:
developable surfaces, generation of developable surfaces, properties of developable surfacesAbstract
The ruled surfaces, generated by a straight line moving in space in accordance with a certain law, exibit special properties that confer them a wide range of practical applications. Among these, the possibility of their developing over a plane constitutes a significant advantage, especially in the field of machine building design. The present paper relies on the previous preoccupations of the authoress concerning the developable surfaces of higher degree and tackles several general aspects referring to the generation and properties of these surfaces, with special reference to two of them, namely cylindrical and conical surfaces respectively.
